Politehnica University Timișoara

Founded in 1920, after the first World War had ended, Politehnica University was first known as Politehnica School in Timișoara, and it tried to answer Romania’s need for good engineers. 

Politehnica University of Timișoara, a university of advanced research and education, is today one of the traditional Romanian schools and is recognized nationally and internationally both through the work of generations of teachers and the outstanding work of prestigious academics. Also, it tries to satisfy the market needs by producing highly talented engineers that are appreciated here, in our country, as well as in other locations.

It's also one of the biggest universities here, in Romania, and one of the largest technical universities in Central and Eastern Europe, with numbers to prove it:

  • 10 faculties to choose from;
  • approximately 13500 students studying there;
  • 25 departments;
  • 700 professors;
  • 500 people in the administration.

The university is also successful on the national and international stage by producing excellent results from the 25 scientific researching departments in which teams of scientists collaborate to research new technologies. This also funds the institution and keeps it at a high level among other universities.

Fully consistent with its mission to assert itself internationally, the university is currently developing collaborations with many universities in Europe, USA, Canada, South America and Asia. Also, it is involved in the well-known international programme Erasmus+, receiving students to study here and sending students to study abroad. 

One of the biggest faculties of Politehnica University is the Faculty of Automation and Computers, which is basically computer science. It was founded in 1990 and today holds the largest number of students from all of the 10 faculties.
