This year our festival, ISWinT has the honour of being supported by three different institutions. Two of them are national: The National Committee of Romania for UNESCO and The Romanian Government, and one of them is international: The European Parliament.
The National Committee of Romania for UNESCO has existed ever since Romania has joined the UNESCO in 1956 and its goals align with the ones of UNESCO in its national support for activities and festivals that pursue five major programs: education, natural sciences, social/human sciences, culture and communication/information. The Romanian Government is the public authority of executive power that functions on the basis of the vote of confidence granted by Parliament. And, lastly, The European Parliament is the only parliamentary institution of the European Union (EU) that is directly elected by EU citizens aged 18 or older.
All of these organizations have shown their support for the festival’s pursuit of encouraging education and culture not only in its local populace, but also in the group of foreign students that spend a week learning in Timișoara and also visiting the city.
For us, the organizers, this is among the best achievements we’ve recorded so far, after 26 years of organizing ISWinT. It started as a brave attempt to try something different. Something “out of the box”, we may say. It was an opportunity for our oldest project to get the recognition it deserves and we went for it, without big expectations or any guarantee we will succeed. But there was also nothing to lose, only learning from our own mistakes and eventually give it another try later.
It turns out the odds were in our favor. The news regarding the accorded patronages for ISWinT were coming one by one. We felt an increasing excitement and appreciation for all the work involved. Truth is, the biggest reward of them all for us is the feedback from the participants of ISWinT for whom we do all of this work. Their bright smiles, photos taken, food shared, everlasting memories they will make here in Timisoara (and ourselves by their side, of course) and the precious lessons they will learn at the workshops are the main reason why ISWinT exists.
There’re less than two weeks until ISWinT begins (yey!) and we are working hard to give you the best experience for this edition ISWinT. Our efforts are directed to the preparation of the student dorms, the activities and the decorations. Stay tuned, we will keep you updated with the status of ISWinT 2019. Learn today, change tomorrow!
